Khuvsgul lake National Park

There live Dukha-Darkhad people we used to call them Tsaatan people means reindeer herders whose still live in tepee on the mountain with their reindeers in Taiga. It is possible to see the Reindeer herders only on northern part of Mongolia and they are seldom about 400 of them live there. You can meet with Shamans at Taiga too. Their livelihood is completely dependent on the nature so Tsaatan people migrate few times a year according to their reindeers they need to live cold area which is suitable temperature for their reindeers.  It is one of the most popular destination for traveling, as Tsaatan people keep their tradition and nomadic way living still now.

Khovsgol lake is Mongolia’s largest and deepest lake. Located in the northern Murun province, it is the largest tributary stream of Lake Baikal in Russia. Lake Khuvsgul is 136 km long, 36 km wide, and 262 meters deep and is located at an altitude of 1645 m above sea level. It is frozen from January until April. There organize the Ice Festival on March such as activities take place: an ice knuckle-bone shooting contest, bicycle and ice skate races, moto sports performance, sled dog race, tug of war, relay race, family contest, horse race, performance of locals and singers, musician and dancers of theatre. It’s the second largest fresh water lake in Central Asia. Several species of fish settle in this lake including the Siberian grayling and lenok. Fishing, sailing and sport fishing are popular activities in the lake area. Lake Khovsgol is on the important migration route for birds from Siberia, thus facilitating marvelous opportunities for watching birds.
